GIANT. The show that definitely almost wasn't.
This show has seen us all through some tough, terrific and terrifying times. Since 2016 it has toured to over 25 venues across the UK, garnered critical acclaim at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and very nearly destroyed all of our backs with it's over large set. But now, it's time to put GIANT to bed one last time.
So as a final farewell, we are bringing the big guy home and heading to St Andrew's in Croydon. This is a brand new arts hub in the borough that we are very proud to be heading up with support from The Hive and Croydon Council.
We would be honoured if you would join us to give this show a helluva send off on 25th May from 7.30pm, including an immersive opening to the show. Performance to start at 8.30pm.
Tickets: £12 / £10 cons.
About the show
Tommy, aged 22, lives under the same roof as three generations of his family. They've learnt to ignore the strange things his nan says over dinner and the bizarre rumblings coming from the attic.
Horribly honest clowns and questionable cabaret acts ignite the stage with Human Zoo's trademark visual storytelling. This dynamic young ensemble explores their own generational identity through live music, puppetry, movement and playful clowning. What have we inherited from older generations? What, if anything, is new?
GIANT is an explosive, absurd + visceral adventure into adulthood. Could Tommy's nan know more than meets the eye..?
'Witty, winsome and inventive. It is rare to find such a generous ensemble as Zoo Co' ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ The Stage
'Endlessly inventive... Surprises and delights at every turn’ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ The List
'Excellent story-tellers... They greet the audience as if they are long lost friends' ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ British Theatre Guide
'Full fun and mighty seriousness... Highly creative, imaginative geniuses' ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ Theatre Eddy's
'Reminds me of the opening sequence in Up... Incredible, fantastically well-oiled... Clowning and puppetry (and) hilarious cabaret makes it stand out from all the angst-ridden societal plays that crowd the Fringe... Utterly captivating' ✮ ✮ ✮ ✮ Theatre Bubble
As with all our performances, GIANT at St Andrews will be a relaxed performance. This doesn't mean anything that happens on stage will change, it just means that the usual, uptight rule of being in an Audience are slightly relaxed so if you need to get up, move around, shout out or eat something, go for it. The show won't change and we will have people available to help if you need it.
