Beneath Our Feet performance at Fort Amherst

Made by Katie Green will be touring our new promenade work for caves and underground spaces, Beneath Our Feet to Fort Amherst, Chatham on Saturday 28th July. This piece tells the story of the underground using words, movement, live music and light.

Dancing in Caves Professional Development Workshop

On Thursday 26th July, we are offering student and professional dance artists the opportunity to join the company for a day of workshops exploring site specific practice and the process of responding choreographically to underground spaces. This runs from10am - 5pm.

The day will include:
1. Warm-up class and introduction of ideas at The Brook Theatre (Chatham ME4 4SE), 10-12noon

Please note that for the 10-12noon session Loop Dance Company are very kindly allowing us to take over their weekly professional class. Anyone wishing to attend for the morning class only would still need to pay the £5.50 class fee to Loop; for anyone attending for the full day, the cost of the class is included in the overall workshop price.

2. Lunch 12-1pm (please bring your own lunch, or food can be purchased from the Fort Amherst café)

3. Afternoon choreographic exploration on-site at Fort Amherst from 1-5pm, looking at some of the themes and ideas from Beneath Our Feet and supporting participants’ exploration of their own ideas (including playing with use of sound and different light sources)

Early Bird Booking Rate (extended until Sunday 1st July) £25
- including access to morning class at The Brook Theatre (usually £5.50), access to Fort Amherst (usually £5) with tea and coffee provided and a discount code for tickets to one of our performances of Beneath Our Feet on the 28th July
Full price (if booking after Sunday 1st July) £30

Tickets for the performances on 28th July will be offered at a discounted rate of just £10 each for workshop participants (maximum 1 discounted ticket per workshop place).

Do I need to have any previous experience?

The workshop is aimed at student and professional dance artists who we expect to have undertaken some vocational dance/movement training. You do not have to have previous experience of working site-specifically.

What will I need to bring with me?

Food for lunch or money to buy something from the Fort Amherst cafe. You may want to bring a notebook and something to write with for discussions or noting down ideas but this is not essential.

What will I need to wear?

We will begin in a studio, so dress appropriately for a warm-up class. When working in the tunnels, please wear supportive shoes with good grip and dress for the cooler temperatures.

Will lunch/refreshments be provided?

Please bring your own packed lunch with you. Tea/coffee will be provided in the afternoon break.
