Illustrator Josie Brookes with give an introduction to her work, a live demo showing specific techniques and then a guided workshop so you can create your own collages. Materials will be gathered from delving into Cobalt’s riso poster archive.

Artists practitioners and curious creatives are all welcome. Kids can come with their adults. Very relaxed atmosphere with music, candles, full bar/hot drinks and simple food available (toasties, cake etc)

Josie is a freelance Illustrator based in Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England.

She specialises in editorial illustration, with a focus on colour experimentation, collage and print making techniques. Her published work includes children’s books ‘The Flower with Feelings’ ,‘The Making of U’ and e-book ‘My Random Digi Life’.

Josie was the Pop up studio Illustrator in Residence for 2019’s Northern Festival of Illustration. She is also a key member of the Illustration collective ‘Set of Drawers’, who curate exhibitions, drawing events and undertake group commissions across the North East region.

With over 13 years experience as a participatory arts practitioner, Josie also works both independently and on behalf of organisations, delivering creative workshops in illustration, print, animation and graphic design to groups of all ages and abilities.

What will I be doing? You will be working with old riso printed posters and  basic art  materials to create collage portraits.

Should I bring anything? No! 

Do I need any previous experience? No, this is a course for all – you just need to be open to coming and playing around, its relaxed and sociable.

Will I go home wiht finished work? Yes! 

Can I bring my child? children 8-14 are welcome, we have kids and adults tickets avaibale. 

What will I do if I’m hungry or thirsty! Cobalt sells very simple food, toasties, crisps, fruit etc , we have a coffee machine and a fully stocked bar!

Cobalt consists of 14 artists studios, an arts venue, a top floor hot design space in development (grants pending!) and a backyard with loads of potential for a point in the future when the main building is finished. Cobalt Studios is a not for profit arts community interest organisation that we set up to nurture and support culture and community. We do this by providing the following services; • Access to affordable or free space for artists/organisations on low incomes to nurture and safeguard cultural endeavour • Access to audiences for affordable or free cultural activity • Providing education activities • Providing apprenticeship and training opportunities as well as the creation of voluntary posts and jobs
