Sophie A Mitchell's Introduction to Screenwriting course is a 2-hour overview of the key elements of writing a screenplay and an explanation of the script to screen process. She will discuss the differences between writing for the stage and the screen and what you should think about before starting to write and how to plan your writing. She will then guide you through the building blocks of a successful screenplay including character, structure and visuals. She will also explain industry terminology and how to layout a script. She will also talk about the importance of re-writing and how it is absolutely essential to have an understanding of the wider industry.

Sophie A Mitchell is a TV and film script editor and developer who has been working in the industry for 12 years. She started in film and now predominately works as a script editor in British TV. She has a diploma in script development from the NFTS and has previously taught the industry recognised Script Reading course for Industrial Scripts and currently teaches as part of Screenwriting Goldmine’s Tribe programme for new writers. Her professional credits as a script editor include Holby City, Emmerdale, Coronation Street and Doctors. She has also worked in development at Wall to Wall, Endor, Double M Films and Wildgaze Films. An idea she found and developed while at Wall to Wall, The Children, has now finished filming and will be shown next year on BBC2. She has also freelanced with companies such as Studio Canal, Mammoth, Red Planet, Big Light, 42MP, C4, and Creative England. She has worked with both new writers and established TV giants. She is an Edinburgh TV Festival Ones to Watch 2019.
